Twinned Cities/Necklace Park Postcard Project

Have you sent us a postcard? Have you been sent a Necklace Park postcard? Would you like to comment on a card you've seen, or sent? Look here to see the cards we've received, and here for further blogposts on the topic.

The Necklace Park Postcard Project is part of the Twinned Cities strand, where people from other places tell us something about where they live, especially if it has something to do with outdoor activities (fishing! dens! skateboards!), water, bridges, trees, wildlife, livestock (cows! pigeons! critters!), old buildings (churches! ruins!), towns and countryside. That covers just about everywhere, me thinks.

We want your postcards and descriptions of where you live, the kinds of things you enjoy doing outdoors, your favourite building or tree, things you like doing on or in the water, what you do in the countryside or town. We also like fanciful stories, so if you know one about the cow that slept in the church, or the magical talking broccoli that lives under a tree by day and runs a jazz club in the vennels at night, please do tell!

Send us a card, and we'll put it on display. Visitors can leave comments here, so you may find a new postcard pal in addition to having your card seen and appreciated by people in Durham! You can send us a card directly, or via PostCrossing, the world-famous postcard-sharing website.

We will scan some of the cards and post them online for you to see. We will also organise a display or album for visitors to look at and leave comments. We will post some of the comments online with the scanned images.

To send us a card, address it to Durham Necklace Park Postcard Project, c/o Durham County Council, County Hall, Durham, DH1 5UQ United Kingdom. You may put it to my attention, but it should arrive if the above address is entered in full. If it's been more than 3 weeks since you sent a card, leave us a note here and we'll try to track it. (Or sign up and leave a comment below.) If you have a PostCrossing postcard ID for any card you've sent, please tell us the number to make it easier for us to locate and register.

To leave a comment, create a new account here or over on the right, then come back here and add a comment. (Comments are reviewed by web administrators before they're made public, so there may be some delay before you see it on the site.)

Cows against Chaos

Last year I visited a COW BEAUTY SHOW in Grabs, not so far from me - that was amasing! No looking-like kate-moos-sceletons, just healthy beauty girls and ladies from surrounding mountains. And now goats and sheeps have stolen the idea! The Goat beauty show will take place this weekend in Sevelen!
Please tell us about british cow beauty contests!
Best wishes (as well as fresh milk and cheese) from the Swiss Alps!

What a moo-tiful idea!

What a moo-tiful idea! But I don't know about such things, so we will have to put out the cattle call: does anyone know about Durham ladies of the fields? Can we have a report on their artistic and intellectual achievements?

Have we got a Cud Will Ambassador to roam the world inspiring other cows to do something about climate change?

Or that special cow who can tell us more about the neighbourhood?

Right Drivers

I cannot speak for Durham cows, but the right driving cows of Northamptonshire have a lot to say about driving in general and have lodged their concerns with the local council in their well documented campaign of 2005. They were front page news in The Bullhammer Citizen on at least three occasions and their spokesheifer was invited to DLM TV but in a strange twist of irony was late for the scheduled interview because she couldn't find a parking space.

The campaign has lost a little impetus since then but a small herd of bovines still meet once a month. The theme for the next meeting April 29th is "Motorbikes and the ethics of wearing leathers."

Swiss Cows Want To Know

Thanx a lot for my Saturday-morning-wonderful-surprise-which-made-my day! :)
I have shown the card to a cow next door - she said Mooooooooooh muh muuuh, what means in our local dialect "Great views! And how do cows feel themselves in right-driving countries?"
So please inform her with all details asap :)))))
We - me and local cows - wish you a wonderful summer!
Happy postcrossing!
