Do you want to Map the Necklace?

Mapping the Necklace can be…

  • recording a journey by you, by others, by your ancestors, by wildlife…
  • recording a trail you want others to follow…from wild garlic to abandoned mines…
  • recording an activity, a performance, a sport that uses the Necklace Park as a venue…
  • recording the Park’s geography, either physical or cultural, current or historic…
  • recording sounds, sights, stories and music that evoke the Necklace Park…
  • recording journeys of reality and guidance, fantasy and speculation…

Teams are already forming to Map the Necklace.

  • Some people are connected to existing festivals in Durham, to existing clubs and activities in the Park, so their maps will focus on something solid and timely. Other people have just arrived on our (virtual) doorstep!
  • The first few contacts with people interested in mapping are about real needs, balanced by great ideas, flights of fancy, and a lot of laughter.
  • The next contacts are all about questions that everyone needs answered before they can start.. So in order for you to decide whether and how you want to get involved, we’ve described the Mapping event through the Top Ten Questions. (Please also check FAQ for all those other nagging questions that you will think of once you’ve read this section, and send us any more you want answered by us through “contact us”.)
  • Mapping the Necklace safely is important: you are planning and running your own mapping expeditions, and you need to think about how to preserve the safety of your team. So do a recce in advance, and make sure you plan a safe mapping experience in the Durham Necklace Park!
